Hire a Budget car and explore the South East

Carlow, Ireland's second smallest county situated on the river Barrow in the heart of the South East is bordered on the West by Kilkenny, on the East by Wexford and to the South by Waterford.

Waterford, the largest city in the South East of Ireland sits on the River Suir. Further down the Suir is the meeting point of the three sisters where the Nore and the Barrow join the River Suir. This area is very popular with fishermen. An interesting historic attraction is Reginald's Tower as it is Ireland's oldest urban civic building and is recorded as the oldest monument in Ireland to retain its Viking name. John Roberts Square is the focal point of Waterford's pedestrianised shopping area.

Wexford is steeped in history, founded by the Vikings in the 9'th century it boasts the achievement of being Ireland's first town. It is also remembered in history for playing host to the 1798 rebellion. A visit to the 1978 Rebellion Centre in Enniscorthy is a fun way to learn about this part of Ireland's history. Another noteworthy attraction is the Irish National Heritage Park where you can explore over 9000 years of Irish history.

Kilkenny is a city renounced for festivals and atmosphere and none better than the first weekend of June when the best of the Irish and International comedy circuit descend on Kilkenny for The Kilkenny Cats Laughs Festival. Those looking to hit the shops for a bargain should try MacDonagh Junction or Market Cross.

Arts, Culture and Music

The Spraoi Festival is held on the August bank holiday weekend every year in Waterford, it is a time of excitement when explosions of colour, music and drama take to the streets for three days culminating in the Spraoi Parade.

Music lovers should definitely check out the Wexford Opera Festival. This yearly festival attracts people from all over the world and has been running since 1951.

Golf

Mount Juliet Golf Course located in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny is a Jack Nicklaus designed course and it is considered to be one of Ireland's finest.
